Mission / Methodology
Using BioMechanics and functional training we teach riders using an optimal path strategy while maintaining an atmosphere of fun. Both are critical to learning and retention. No more riding around and around the arena wondering why you are not learning. No more repeating a mistake over and over until the mistake becomes muscle memory. What are BioMechanics/functional training and why are they critical to riding?
BioMechanics is the study of the effects of dynamic processes, such as motion or acceleration, on living organisms. In our case, the movement of the human body when combined with the movement of the horses body. In other words the lines, and angles of muscles and joints in motion and how to effectively use them for balance and communication.
Functional Training simply put, are exercises preparing the mind and body for a very specific role (in our case riding a horse). By drawing from a large collection of *FUN* activities (Functional exercises) , we target the very specific muscle groups, reflexes, and mental thought processes involved in riding. The best part is kids and adults have fun, but their riding rapidly improves . Our students feel more in control, more relaxed, and rapidly gain a sense of confidence and accomplishment.
Using a wealth of experience in Centered Riding, Natural Horsemanship, Functional Training and Sports psychology we create individualized exercises to help you learn correct riding faster and meet your goals. We can help you develop techniques to monitor and correct your own weaknesses, manage anxiety, as well as develop balance and poise. Whether yourgoals/ interests are in competitive English jumping or Dressage, Western Pleasure or riding vacations, we have the experience to help you achieve your goals. We instruct on our own horses or on your horses. We can also travel to your facility. Gift certificates are available.
I train horses using a combination of Natural Horsemanship, Classical Dressage, and classic Hunt/Jump techniques to build a foundation for your activities. Whether you are interested in competing in jumping, cross country, dressage, or versatile horse, or simply require a horse that respects your space so that you feel safe around it, I can help.
We offer training in house or at your facility.
I will also travel to your barn to offer group clinics on how to communicate with your horse more effectively on the ground and in the saddle. Topics include:
- BioMechanics of horse and rider
- How to optimize your aids and timing
- How your horse may move better and more comfortably
- Consistent setting of boundaries and acceptable behaviors
- Establishing a Leader / Follower relationship
- Yielding to pressure instead of pulling
- Respecting your space
- Solving behavioral problems
